The Word "Music"

Audacity is a free digital audio program that you can use to create clips for student projects

and that students can use to create:

  • Hip-Hop Beats
  • Podcasts
  • Original Music
  • Clips for school projects
  • Audiobooks

Download Audacity

Download the LAME MP3 Encoder

Hip Hop Instrumentals:

Music and History in the same lesson. search for wav files online.

Or get this book, which I used as a reference in creating the lesson plan; the book has a CD with lots of samples on it, and teens might actually read it!

Podcasts!

A podcast is basically an MP3 file, which can be made with a microphone and Audacity and then uploaded to a blog or imported into Windows Movie Maker and made into a video podcast.

Teens can create stories, poetry, rants, even create learning aids for studying, then import them into iPods or burn on audio CD's.

Audiobooks

Teens can create their own audiobooks -- either writing them, or reading them in. Here's an online teleprompter, which is pretty cool:

Cueprompter:   http://www.cueprompter.com/

There's a great site where classic books can be downloaded in .mp3 format -- fun for listening, fun for a book club, fun for making gifts, like Jane Austen for Mother's Day on a CD:
